Environmental Initiatives

Helping to protect our planet's ecosystems and wildlife spaces is critically important. Our natural environment is under constant attack from deforestation, toxic pollution and, of course, global warming. Dawn strives to combine her teaching, creative and philanthropic activities to help local initiatives designed to protect our fragile environment.

SAVING PORT WASHINGTON'S WETLANDS
In 2016, Dawn partnered with David Jakim to lead the successful effort in saving 240 acres of natural wetlands from development.

CRESLI, COASTAL RESEARCH SOCIETY OF LONG ISLAND

Dawn served as a volunteer citizen-scientist for CRESLI, an organization that studies the marine life of Long Island, specializing in population and distribution studies.
The Audubon Society...

During the Autumn of 2012, Dawn created a fundraising Nature Poetry Writing workshop at the the local Audubon Society Wildlife Nature Sanctuary.

Dawn often volunteers to help clean up local beaches and protect local wildlife speeches.
